Executives sell for many reasons that have nothing to do with their view of the business — taxes, diversification, a house. Sales are far more common than purchases, so read them with more caution than headlines usually allow.

How to read this: The badge matters more than the number. A sale marked "Planned" was scheduled months ago under a Rule 10b5-1 plan and carries very little information about today.

Does insider selling mean a stock will fall?
Usually not. Most executive compensation is paid in stock, so selling is the normal way insiders convert pay into cash. Research has consistently found insider sales far less predictive than insider purchases. Clusters of discretionary selling by several insiders at once are more notable than any single sale.

Insider buying is the stronger signal

Sales have many innocent explanations. Purchases have one.
